“This was my third trip to San Francisco and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the chancellor hotel. I have stayed at 5 star hotels in San Francisco however the service and atmosphere of this hotel was a much more genuine experience. The location is perfect and in a safe area. There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance and public transport is easily accessible. I really like the boutique feel of the hotel and there are many older features which have been well preserved. The hotel is great value for money and I will be recommending it to friends and family.“

“We got in late in the evening. The rooms were exactly as I requested. It seemed as if they had been freshly painted, but maybe that is just because the place is so clean. The beds are quite comfortable. The downstairs restaurant is a real "plus" for breakfast in the morning. It has become a real home away from home for me, and the staff-- many of whom I now recognize after having stayed for 4 years-- thanks to TripAdvisor-- are great.“

“The Chancellor Hotel was built in the early 1900's. You wouldn't know it by the interior. This wonderfully appointed hotel is situated in a perfect location to enjoy the city. Not only that, the rooms were incredibly clean, the bell staff was more than attentive, the front desk personnel answered every question we had AND even printed out maps to the various locations we mentioned. Our bell staff person was named Matthew and he stood out in the rain on a very busy Saturday night and relentlessly attempted to hail a cab. Not an easy task under the circumstances. The complimentary coffee was a nice touch along with the apples and cookies. The hallways are narrow and the rooms are of a modest size but that is due to the age of the property which I might add was completely charming, elegant and totally perfect for our visit. This hotel has class and has been very well maintained. Our bed linens were clean and new and there were a variety of pillows to choose from including buckwheat!“

“This hotel has bags of character and in an excellent location being handy to transport and the shops/restaurants in the Union Square area. Staff are friendly and helpful and room prices are reasonable for this location. We upgraded to a suite on the 14th floor, good size, quiet and comfortable and spotlessly clean. If we're ever back in San Francisco we would definitely stay here again.“

“We were very happy with our stay in the Chancellor. We used the shuttle service from the airport recommended by the hotel and it worked well. Room was big enough, we were on a higher floor and although we could hear a trumpet player at union square until late evening it was fine and kept us very much in the mood. The staff were friendly and helped us understand how to get around. No down sides at all.“

“We recently stayed at this hotel while attending a conference. It was clean, quiet, had comfortable beds and pleasant staff. The location is great for accessing a variety of tourist attractions around the city. We also like the fact that this is a family owned hotel.“

“What a great hotel! Centrally located about 20 steps from Union Square, great price and great service. Everything we could have wanted. We had a Suite and we had 2 full bathrooms! Everything was spotless and comfortable. We also had one of those fancy coffee makers that you put the cup in and out comes whatever kind of coffee you chose. And there were cookies in the lobby daily . . . a lifesaver on the days of those early morning tours to Alcatraz and the wine country.

I can also say that the brunch in Luques was terrrific.“
